Grace Baty

Graduate Assistant


Grace Baty's headshot

Grace Baty is the Graduate Assistant for the Director of Administration. Her responsibilities include coordinating events for Undergraduate Studies programs, organizing the University of Maryland chapter of Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honor Society, and assisting the needs of the Dean's Suite. She has a B.A. in History from Hope College and is currently pursuing a Masters of Arts in History and a Masters of Library and Information Science from the University of Maryland.

Laura Cech

Associate Director of Communications



Laura Cech oversees communications for the University of Maryland’s Office of Undergraduate Studies, serving as its chief information officer and leading website development, communications strategy, and special campus initiatives.

Before coming to UMD in 2019, she worked as a communications director and consultant on Capitol Hill, developing social media campaigns and creating editorial content. Before that, she was a prize-winning reporter for The Baltimore Sun. She has a bachelor's degree in mass communications from Towson University and is earning a Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies in Multimedia Journalism from the University of Maryland.

Lawrence M. Clark

Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies

Dr. Lawrence M. Clark is an Associate Dean in the Office of Undergraduate Studies. He works on learning outcomes assessment, General Education, diversity and inclusion, faculty and curriculum development, and other key areas.

Dr. Clark has been at the University of Maryland since 2007 and is Associate Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership, in the College of Education. He served from 2018 to 2020 as Senior Research Associate of Evidence-Based Innovations in Teacher Education in the College of Education Dean’s Office and has participated as a faculty fellow in the Big Ten Academic Alliance Leadership Program and the Advancing Faculty Diversity program (UMD ADVANCE). Dr. Clark has led multiple departmental and college committees on curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation, and partner school district collaborations.

Dr. Clark’s research is in the area of mathematics education, with a focus on relationships among teachers’ beliefs, perceptions, and instructional practices. An additional thread of Dr. Clark’s research focuses on African American mathematics teachers’ histories, perspectives, and practices. He is currently PI on a major grant from the Maryland State Department of Education and in collaboration with Montgomery County and Prince George’s County Public Schools, as well as PI on a project funded by the National Science Foundation that immerses middle school students in sports data analytics in efforts to build their knowledge of statistical concepts and data science. He received his Ph.D. from Emory University and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan.

Alice Donlan

Assistant Dean


Alice Donlan's headshot

Dr. Alice Donlan is an Assistant Dean in the Office of Undergraduate Studies. Her work centers on curriculum design, faculty development, General Education, learning outcomes assessment, diversity and inclusion, and living-learning programs.

Prior to joining the Office of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Donlan was the Director of Research at the Teaching and Learning Transformation Center, and a Postdoctoral Fellow at Tufts University. She has expertise in the assessment of teaching and learning, school transitions, and the ways social support and a sense of belonging promote academic achievement. Dr. Donlan earned her B.A. in Psychology from the College of William & Mary, and her Doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Maryland.

Leeanne Dunsmore

Director of Strategic Initiatives


Leeanne Dunsmore's headshot

Dr. Leeanne Dunsmore is the Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Office of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Maryland leading efforts to enhance experiential learning opportunities for students in the Honors and Scholars living learning programs.

Prior to this role she served as the Director for Education Abroad at the University of Maryland. She previously was a Senior Educational Advisor for the U.S. Department of State, and launched the U.S Study Abroad Branch in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. She also served as the Associate Dean in the School of International Service at American University. She received her B.A in international relations and business from the College of Wooster, her M.A. in international political economy from American University and a Doctorate in Global Education from the University of Southern California.

JAMIE HOOTS

Assistant Dean for Finance and Personnel

Jamie Hoots is Assistant Dean for Finance and Personnel. He oversees the Office of Undergraduate Studies’ budget and serves as an advisor to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies and program directors. His team in the Dean’s Office includes a business manager and business services specialist.

Jacqueline Kautzer

Director of Administration and Equity Administrator


Jackie Kautzer's headshot


Jackie Kautzer is the Director of Administration and Equity Administrator for the Office of Undergraduate Studies. Her responsibilities include managing the Dean's schedule, event and meeting planning, facilities issues, annual awards and scholarships, other special projects including the Merrill Scholars Program.

Before joining UGST, Ms. Kautzer held positions in the Smith School of Business and the College of Arts and Humanities. She has a B.A. from New York University, an MFA from the University of Maryland, and an MLS from the University of Maryland.

Lisa Kiely

Associate Dean and Undergraduate Ombudsperson

Lisa Kiely is an Associate Dean in the Office of Undergraduate Studies and Undergraduate Student Ombudsperson. Her responsibilities include transfer student issues, retention, graduation and advising initiatives, reenrollment, the First-Year Book program, course planning, and a number of policy issues related to undergraduate education.

Prior to joining the Office of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Kiely was Director of Undergraduate Academic and Administrative Affairs in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. She has a B.S. from Westfield State College, M.S. from St. Michael's College, and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland.

AMINA LAMPKIN

Communications Coordinator


Amina Lampkin's headshot


Amina Lampkin is a Communications Coordinator in the Office of Undergraduate Studies. She works with the Associate Dean of Communications to help manage the department's websites, as well as communications strategy, design, content creation, and distribution.

Prior to joining the Office of Undergraduate Studies, she was a communications associate with the Community Development Bankers Association. In the role, she served as the marketing team's project manager and worked alongside the CMO to help association members create or scale their marketing strategies.

Amina previously held a communications role within University Honors as well. With a passion for innovative and thorough storytelling, she earned a B.A. in Multiplatform Journalism and Information Science with a data science concentration from the University of Maryland.

MELODY MEYERS

Melody Meyers' headshot


Melody Meyers is the Coordinator for General Education for the Office of Undergraduate Studies. Her responsibilities include overseeing the General Education faculty boards, planning meetings and events for the UGST Office, and day-to-day management of the Dean’s Office. Prior to joining the Office of Undergraduate Studies, Melody was the Client Services Manager for a small translation company, and a Program Coordinator at the Smith School of Business. She earned her BA in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland.

Cynthia Kay Stevens

Associate Dean

Cynthia Kay Stevens serves as an associate dean in the Office of Undergraduate Studies, where she works closely with campus living-learning and other special programs and addresses a wide range of diversity and inclusion initiatives. Her portfolio also includes the Individual Studies and ROTC programs and General Education.

Dr. Stevens’s faculty appointment is in the Management & Organization Department at the Smith School, where she studied cognitive and social factors affecting staffing (interviews, job search & choice, recruitment), training (skill acquisition, maintenance and retention), and interpersonal work relationships (e.g., diversity dynamics, dysfunctional work relationships and difficult employees). Dr. Stevens has taught in the MBA, EMBA and Ph.D. programs at the Smith School and in EMBA programs at University of Iowa, Seattle University, and Wuhan University (China). She has consulted with businesses on leadership development, performance management, and diversity-related issues and works as an executive coach.
