The Boren Scholarship program provides awards to American undergraduate students for study abroad in world regions critical to U.S. national security. The Boren Fellowship program enables U.S. graduate students to add an important international and language component to their graduate education through specialization in area study, language study, or increased language proficiency.

Through its program of Fellowships, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation's college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students. The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Program was created to encourage outstanding sophomores and juniors who intend to pursue graduate study (usually a Ph.D.) in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering, to foster excellence in those fields.

The NOAA Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship Program offers two year scholarship opportunities for rising juniors in a four-year program and rising senior year students in a five-year program who are majoring in disciplines including, but not limited to, oceanic, environmental, and atmospheric sciences, mathematics, engineering, remote sensing technology, physical and social sciences including, geography, physics, hydrology, geomatics, or teacher education that support NOAA's programs and mission.
