Matthew Marcus, a junior aerospace engineering major in the A. James Clark School of Engineering, is this
year’s recipient of the Shirley C. Sorensen Academic Excellence Award, from the Maryland Phi Kappa Phi Foundation.
Each year, the Foundation awards a $1,000 scholarship in honor of long-time executive secretary of Phi Kappa Phi
Chapter 22, Shirley C. Sorensen. Professor Sorensen was a member of the University’s mathematics faculty.
Ms. Lauren Woolsey, a 2011 University of Maryland College Park Bachelor of Science recipient in physics, and a Bachelor of Science recipient in astronomy, has been awarded a Walter and Adelheid Graduate Fellowship from Phi Kappa Phi National, for $5,000. Lauren began her doctoral work in physics this fall, at Harvard.
