Laura Slavin: Assistant to the Dean for
Undergraduate Studies
and Director of CORE Planning and Implementation
As
Assistant to the Dean for Undergraduate Studies,
Laura Slavin works closely with the Dean and Associate
Dean. As Director of CORE Planning and Implementation
she oversees the activities necessary to maintain
and improve the CORE Liberal Arts and Sciences
Studies Program (CORE), the University's general
education curriculum, frequently developing new
ways to enhance processes and services. She serves
on the Senate Committee on CORE and works closely
with its subcomittees, with academic colleges
and departments, and the many offices and individuals
involved with the CORE curriculum.
Prior
to joining the Office of Undergraduate Studies
in 1990, she worked in promotional, advising,
and administrative positions for UM programs and
offices including: the Returning Students Program;
General Studies Program; College of Library and
Information Services, and Department of Computer
Science. She is a former chair of the President’s
Commission on Women’s Issues and serves
as a judicial board member, and as an interviewer
for pre-med and pre-dental students. Ms. Slavin
received her B.G.S., M.A., and MBA degrees from
the University of Maryland. Her academic and administrative
experiences at College Park have given her a valuable
perspective on the campus as a dynamic and interactive
community.
