Who Can Apply: Seniors and recent graduates - open to all fields - must have a bachelor's degree by August 1 – must be between the ages of 18 and 29

IMPORTANT: Because all courses are in English, applicants must have strong English language skills. If the applicant's native language is not English, test scores must be submitted with the application.

Description: Schwarzman Scholars is the first scholarship created to respond to the geopolitical landscape of the 21st Century. Whether in politics, business or science, the success of future leaders around the world will depend upon an understanding of China’s role in global trends.

The program provides exceptionally qualified students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and professional networks through a one-year master’s degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Students will live and study together on the campus of Schwarzman College where all classes are taught in English. Students will pursue degrees in one of three disciplines: Public Policy; Economics and Business; and International Studies.

Selection Criteria: There is no minimum GPA. Applicants will be reviewed holistically; academic excellence and demonstrated leadership skills will be evaluated strongly.

Duration: One academic year.

Program Requirements: All Scholars are required to live at Schwarzman College.

Award Amount: Tuition fees; room and board; travel to and from Beijing at the beginning and end of the program and the "travel seminar," which is an official part of the program; required coursebooks and supplies; basic health insurance; personal stipend of $3,500.

Campus Deadline: UMD will provide up to five institutional recommendations annually. The deadline to apply for consideration is May 31, 2020. Students seeking institutional recommendations after the May 31 deadline may be reviewed on a case by case basis.
