Description: PRINCETON IN ASIA (PiA) is an independent, non-profit organization located at Princeton University. Founded by students in 1898, the program has long been driven by a mission to foster mutual appreciation and cultural understanding by connecting service-minded graduates and partner organizations in Asia through immersive work experiences that transform perspectives, cultivate longlasting friendships and benefit local and global communities.

For the 2017-2018 academic year, Princeton in Asia expects to offer approximately 130 full-year fellowships in the following locations: Cambodia, China, East Timor, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, The Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Princeton in Asia fellows teach in kindergartens, secondary schools, polytechnics and universities; they help run international and local nonprofits as well as some of Asia’s most innovative businesses and social enterprises; they write for newspapers and create content for news platforms with an international reach. Due to the size and diversity of the positions available, we encourage applicants of all disciplines and backgrounds to apply. Humility, flexibility, adaptability, and a sense of adventure stand out in our strongest applicants.

Program Preferences: The program lookds for open-minded, self-motivated, enthusiastic and hardworking young people. Previous travel and cross-cultural experience is helpful but not essential. A patient and flexible outlook toward career decisions is also beneficial. One-year fellows will have the option of staying a second year; interns' language and teaching skills as well as their cultural awareness usually improve considerably during a second year.

Candidates who have clearly defined goals yet demonstrate flexibility regarding exact placement have better chances.

Award Amount: Though a local salary and housing will be provided, a position with PiA is generally not a money-making venture. However, working hours are kept low if possible in order for interns to pursue language and cultural studies and personal projects.

Duration: One year, with possibility of a second year.

National Deadline: November 11, 2016.
