Who Can Apply: US and Foreign Citizens – Seniors and Recent Grads – GPA of 3.7 or higher strongly recommended – All Majors (but see program preferences below)

IMPORTANT: All Gates-Cambridge applicants must ALSO apply directly to their intended degree program at the University of Cambridge, and must be admitted to Cambridge through the University's normal academic procedures in order to receive an award.

Description: Gates Cambridge Scholarships are full-cost awards for graduate study and research in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. A small number are also available for study towards a second undergraduate degree. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of the candidate’s academic excellence, a good fit between the Scholar’s study interests and the resources of University of Cambridge, evidence of leadership potential and a commitment to improving the lives of others.

The Trust seeks to elect approximately 100 new Gates Scholars annually. Approximately 45 of the 100 new scholarships each year will be awarded to US citizens.

Program Preferences: In selecting Gates Cambridge Scholars, the Trust looks for students with enthusiasm, robustness of intellect, a willingness to engage and an appropriate humility that comes from awareness that nothing is ever really simple.

In particular, Gates Scholars will be driven by the values of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which include a commitment to reducing inequities and improving lives around the world. The Foundation’s mission is to increase opportunity and equity for those most in need, particularly in the areas of health and education, often through the use of science and technology.

Award Amount: A Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge, including allowances for travel and living expenses.

Duration: Gates-Cambridge Scholarships provide support for the normal duration of Scholar’s academic degree program. See website for complete details.
