Who Can Apply: US Citizens - Graduating Seniors, Recent Grads, Graduate Students - Majors or graduate students in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Sciences, Engineering or closely related fields

IMPORTANT: German language requirements depend on the nature of the internship. Some require at least an intermediate level of German language skills while others require none at all.

Description: The DAAD RISE Professional program gives recent graduates, Master and PhD students in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Geology and Physics a unique opportunity to gain practical, career-building experience working in a German company for the summer. Undergraduates who are RISE alumni or former DAAD scholarship holders are also invited to apply. All participants receive stipends from DAAD to help cover living and travel expenses.

The placements will give North American students the possibility to further develop their practical skills, gain an insight into professional work and get to know the opportunities which are offered by industrial companies. They benefit from working in international teams and gaining international professional experience as well as getting a taste of the culture of the German work place. The internship also looks great on a resume and provides excellent opportunities for establishing life-long professional contacts.

Program Preferences: Prior research experience is highly desirable.

Prior German language study is desirable though requirements vary from internship to internship.

Award Amount: The DAAD RISE Professional program and host companies will provide a monthly scholarship of 150 for undergraduates, 250 for graduates and 500 for PhD students. The host companies will contribute an additional stipend of 500. Furthermore, each scholarship holder will receive a lump sum of € 800 for travel expenses and a German Railpass for the trip to the scholarship meeting in Bonn. DAAD will also provide health insurance and accident and personal/private liability insurance.

Duration: Funding is possible for a period of 6 weeks to 6 months (pro-rated depending on length of stay) between May and December 2014.
