Who Can Apply: Graduating Seniors, Recent Grads – Minimum GPA of 2.5 to 3.0, depending on the program. More specific guidance about academic requirements is provided on each program's "Eligibility" page.

Description: The New Teacher Project (TNTP) prepares exceptional teachers for the students who need them most – those in our country’s most disadvantaged communities, where too many children start school behind and struggle to catch up. The program provides an accelerated path into teaching for accomplished professionals and recent graduates. It is specifically designed for people without prior experience as a licensed teacher. Subject areas include chemistry, elementary education, math, physics, and special education. The program currently runs in Baltimore City, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Nevada, and New Orleans.

Program Preferences: The program is selective and looks for individuals with the capacity to be successful in challenging schools. Strong applicants are those who have excellent academic and extracurricular records and those who are committed to having a positive effect on student achievement and the city’s neighborhoods-at-large.

Award Amount: After successfully completing summer training and securing a teaching position at a local school, fellows will begin teaching full-time, earning a full teacher’s salary.

Teaching Fellows are responsible for TNTP Academy tuition or tuition and related fees at a partner university. These costs vary by site. Fellows are also responsible for all fees associated with certification from their district or state, including fees for required examinations or certification filing fees. In addition, states require all teachers to have their fingerprints processed for a background check; fellows are responsible for any costs associated with state or district hiring requirements.

Please note: Fellows will not start paying tuition until they have secured a full-time teaching position in the fall. Interest-free payment plans are available.

National Deadline: Varies by program.
