Katherine C. McAdams
Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies and
Associate Professor of Journalism
Katherine C. McAdams is Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies and
Associate Professor of Journalism at the University of Maryland. She
served as executive director of College Park Scholars, an innovative
living-learning community, from 1997-2002. McAdams holds three degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: A bachelor's
degree in English education, a master's degree in journalism, and a
Ph.D. in mass communication research.
Since coming to Maryland in 1987, she has been recognized for outstanding teaching by the Panhellenic Council, by the Center for Teaching Excellence, and by the local chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa service honorary.
McAdams is co-author of Reaching Audiences: A Guide to Media Writing, published by Allyn and Bacon Publishers and now in its fifth edition. Her research focuses on the language of journalism and techniques for improving journalism education.She has worked in public relations and reporting and has been teaching research methods, writing and editing since 1979.
