Donna B. Hamilton
Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and
Dean for Undergraduate Studies
Donna B. Hamilton is Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean for Undergraduate Studies. Her responsibilities include oversight of the Honors College, College Park Scholars, Letters and Sciences, Academic Achievement Programs, Orientation, Asian American Studies, LGBT Studies, Federal Semester, Individual Studies, Air Force ROTC, Army ROTC, Center for Teaching Excellence, National Scholarships Office, First Year Book program, Student Success Office, and Pre-College Program. She oversees the General Education program, Marquee Courses in Science and Technology, advising policy, practices that support student retention and graduation, and undergraduate student instructional needs.
Her priorities include academic excellence, global engagement, student research, high level internship experiences, access to higher education, excellent teaching, diversity, social justice—all of which enhance student success and the University’s national reputation.
From 1990-96, Dean Hamilton held the position of Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Humanities. From 1998-2003, she served as Director of English Undergraduate Studies. In 2003-2004, she served as Interim Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean for Undergraduate Studies. In July 2004, she was named Associate Provost and Dean.
Dean Hamilton is a professor of English with a specialty in sixteenth-century English literature. In addition to a articles and chapters in books on sixteenth and seventeenth century literature, her publications include Virgil and The Tempest: The Politics of Imitation (1990); Shakespeare and the Politics of Protestant England (1992); and Anthony Munday and the Catholics, 1560-1633 (2005). She has taught undergraduate and graduate students throughout her career.
